I’ve only recently (i.e. today) heard about the Blue Shield which is an organisation that protects cultural sites against armed conflict – which I think is v v cool and vital as war seldom seems to worry too much about the buildings that get destroyed.

The Blue Shields are going to Cologne tomorrow (3rd August) to the rescue workers on the collection of the City Archive of Cologne that has collapsed.About 60 heritage professionals from France, The Netherlands, Belgium, the UK and Sweden will try to save and restore as much of the collection as possible.

I think it’s brilliant that the Library world has such unsung heros!
